Let’s start with the history before we jump into the science and wonder of our organic Mullein Leaf Tea. Native to Europe, northern Africa, and Asia, and established in the United States in the early 18th century, verbascum thapsus, or mullein, is a common biennial plant with furry leaves and small, yellow flowers that grows up to 8 feet tall. Mullein plants love the light. Though its habitat is typically an unruly and previously disturbed one, usually destroyed by natural disasters of some sort, Mullein spread very easily and widely. Close to 2,000 years ago, the ancient Greek physician, pharmacologist, botanist, and author Dioscorides was the first to recommend using the mullein plant when seeking healing from multiple issues surrounding breathing capabilities. Many years later, the Zuni people processed mullein into a powder that they then used as a poultice for skin issues. On another level, folk medicine espouses that mullein boasts magic, able to provide its user courage, protection, and the ability to attract love. Whether this is the case or not, with so much amazing magic behind it, we’ll choose to go with it!
